Celebrating Masonry with a Mozart Concert

In an alignment with Grand Master MWB Charbel T. Fahed's agenda to focus on Education, The Masonic Foundation Of The District Of Columbia is pleased to bring you an exclusive event that will have two prodigies who will perform a Mozart Concert: violinist Mairéad Hickey and pianist Albert Cano Smit.

Mairéad HickeyViolinist

One of Ireland’s most accomplished violinists, Mairéad Hickey was NCH Irish Young Musician of the Year 2010 – 2012. Apart from winning prizes at renowned Irish competitions, she won third prize as well as a Special Prize for the best interpretation of a virtuoso work at the 2016 International Louis Spohr Competition and first prize in the Jeunesses Musicales Violin Competition, Romania 2012. 

In 2017 she was awarded a Special Prize in the Berliner International Music Competition and the Manhattan International Music Competition. Performing regularly throughout Ireland, she has played with both the RTÉ National Concert and Symphony Orchestras. She has performed in every major concert hall in Ireland and abroad in venues including the Royal Festival Hall, London, Beethoven-Haus, Bonn and Carnegie Hall, New York. 

 

Albert Cano SmitJuilliard Pianist

21 year-old pianist Albert Cano Smit is the First Prize winner of the 2017 Walter W. Naumburg Piano Competition. He has performed as soloist and chamber musician across Europe and America, "the audience witnessed a genius at work" (San Francisco Classical Voice) "with the maturity of someone three times his age" (CBC Music), "dazzling technical and emotional dexterity and musicianship" (DNA) and "a superb musician has spoken" (Le Devoir).

His recital appearances have taken him to such prestigious venues as the the Bozar’s Henry Le Boeuf Hall in Brussels, the Maison Symphonique in Montreal, the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, Royce Hall in Los Angeles, the Teatros del Canal in Madrid, the Palacio de Festivales in Santander, the Enric Granados Auditorium in Lleida and the Espai Ter in Torroella, amongst others. As a soloist he has performed with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal, the Manchester Camerata, the Blackburn Symphony Orchestra, the Nottingham Youth Orchestra and the American Youth Symphony.
