CONNECT with MAEA through the

ARTIST / MAKER

INTERDISCIPLINARY SERIES

WORKSHOP : ART + PUBLISHING

For 2017-2018 the MAEA Programs Committee is presenting a new series of four teacher workshops focused on making connections across content. Master art educators, artists, and professionals will partner in presenting their work and facilitating hands on making. Sketchbooks are provided to participants to document their process, and we are excited to include your studio work in an exhibit of art from MAEA members across Maryland. Please join us in connecting, collaborating, and innovating in making and teaching!

Learn about the collaborative practice between two artists and teachers, Meghann Harris and Erin Nutsugah who utilize a hybrid of Graphic Design, English, and DIY Production to engage their students in relevant theme-based study and art making.

Investigate how zines can be used as a teaching & learning tool through meaningful art/design/writing prompts to develop student directed ARTFUL content.   This workshop will explore a variety of ways artists and teachers: tell stories, translate oral narratives into visual designs, explore the visual qualities of text, and combine traditional and contemporary production methods to create contemporary designed text pieces.

This workshop will be held at Open Works, a maker facility whose “mission is to make tools, technology, and the knowledge to use them accessible to all.”
