TTN Trauma-Informed Lunch & Learn May 2019

Join us for our 1st Trauma-Informed Lunch & Learn! We've made some changes to the Quarterly Meeting to make it more accessible to all and to better fit into busy schedules. This session will include a presentation on SBIRT: Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment; a networking activity, and Lunch.           TTN Member Discount!

Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT)

SBIRT is an evidence-based screening and intervention method aimed at the early detection of and early intervention with risky and harmful substance use.  SBIRT can be used in healthcare, behavioral healthcare, schools, and social service organizations as a routine, universal substance use screening for all clients and patients.  SBIRT identifies persons currently at risk for developing substance use disorders (SUD) before they become dependent or addicted.  SBIRT also identifies persons with existing SUDs and recommends techniques for intervening and connecting them to appropriate services.  SBIRT uses Motivational Interviewing (MI) to perform brief interventions with both adolescents and adults.

This presentation will introduce SBIRT and emphasize the view of SUDs as a public health problem.  It will show evidence of SBIRT’s effectiveness, and provide an overview of brief screening tools and interventions with clients in a range of settings.
