"Trauma in Academic Settings" Virtual Training 

When school resumes in the Fall, there will be an even greater need than usual to understand and respond appropriately to trauma. In this 3-hour training hosted on Zoom, learn from licensed social worker and university professor, Dr. Amanda Brown, ways to promote resilience and employ trauma-informed strategies for students of all ages.

Summary: In this 3 hour offering, participants will learn a comprehensive definition of trauma as well as components of the trauma-informed care model. Participants will learn the connection between the neuroscience of trauma and its impact on behavior in an academic setting. Additionally, helping professionals in attendance will explore resiliency factors and trauma-informed strategies to implement in their academic settings. These strategies will be adaptable to k-12 as well as higher education campuses. 


Learning Objectives: 1) Participants will be able to describe a comprehensive definition of trauma, including components of the trauma-informed care model 2) Participants will learn the connection between the neuroscience of trauma and its impact on student behaviors 3) Participants will be able to identify resiliency factors and trauma-informed strategies to utilize with students/clients in an academic setting

Trainer: Amanda Brown, MSSW, Ph.D. Dr. Dishon Brown is an Associate Professor of Social Work at Northern Kentucky University. Her research focuses on the impact of child victimization and adult interpersonal violence on subsequent substance use and psychological distress, as well as trauma-focused pedagogy. As a dually licensed therapist and certified trauma specialist, she utilizes her past experiences in both community mental health and private practice to inform her current work as a trauma-focused consultant for helping professionals in the community.

CEU applicaitons have been made for Ohio Social Workers, Counselors, and MFTs and KY Social Workers. TTN is a provider of IN Category 1 CEUs.
