 Tax Planning for Small Business Owners:  Doing a Deep Dive
into Section 199A

Program Description:
It’s been just over a year since the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act of 2017 was passed and many advisors are still trying to understand Section 199A and how it might help their small business owner clients. 
In this session, Susan Jordan, CPA, CFP and partner and Mowat Mackie & Anderson will cover:
1.    What type of small businesses can take the Section 199A deduction as well as those who don’t
2.    How the rules work and how the deduction is calculated
3.    Areas of ambiguity in the law and how it’s being interpreted
4.    Case studies of planning opportunities with real client situations
5.    How advisors can work collaboratively with CPA’s to arrive at the best outcome for their clients

Speaker's Bio:
Susan Jordan, CPA, CFP, Partner, Mowat Mackie & Anderson
Susan Jordan is a partner at Mowat Mackie & Anderson in Oakland. She specializes in the full realm of income tax compliance and planning services for individuals, trusts and estates. She has more than 25 years of public accounting experience and specializes in the preparation of complex estate tax returns and fiduciary tax returns. She has substantial experience with elder clients under professional conservatorship requiring special income tax needs.

Susan received her Bachelor of Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles and completed her Master of Science in Taxation at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. She is also a member of both of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the California Society of CPAs (CalCPA), as well as a Board Member of the St. Francis Sailing Foundation and on the Board of Trustees for Bayhill High School in Berkeley. Susan currently lives in Oakland with her husband and two children, and enjoys sailing, skiing, traveling and family outings.

From Fourth and Townsend Streets, take the #10 Townsend bus to Fremont and Mission Streets. Walk left on Mission Street 1-1/2 blocks or take the N-Judah Muni streetcar line to Montgomery Station, walk south from Market Street to 536 Mission Street.
