This STAR event will be held at the Gates Volunteer Ambulance Facility!

This is a 2 hour event designed to create a space for EMS and Athletic Trainers to collaborate. EMS and Athletic Trainers will have the opportunity to work alongside each other to practice various equipment removal techniques, patient handoff and other vital responsibilities to ensure that the best patient care is provided for our athletes. This program is eligible for 2 Category A CEUs for the Athletic Trainer.

Learning Objectives

After completion of this program participants will be able to:

  • Conduct a thorough pre-event medical meeting.
  • Become familiar with athletic equipment, equipment removal tools, and equipment removal techniques.
  • Communicate vital information during ATC to EMS handoff.
  • Collaborate with health care professionals of various levels in order to provide high level emergency care and improve patient outcomes

Expect an advanced competency-based training experience that utilizes demonstration and practice to prepare participants to participate in true-to-life simulations as a member of an interdisciplinary and collaborative medical team.

All necessary materials and equipment are provided by SMC, but participants are encouraged to bring any personal emergency response equipment they would like to practice with.
