Introduction to Icons with Debra Korluka

Christos Center for Spiritual Formation welcomes Debra Korluka, world renowned iconographer in our first annual workshop which offers entry into the study of icon painting, technique, and the theology and spirituality of icons. The art form in a Holy icon is intended to be an abstraction which produces a spiritual art across countries and generations which always remains constant, consistent and prescribed by canon rule.  The primary purpose of a Holy icon is to enable a face-to-face encounter with a holy person or to make present a scared event. The Divine Iconographer is the Holy Spirit. Nothing can be accomplished without the grace of the Holy Spirit. By coming into deeper communion with God through prayer and practice, the prayerful art form of the icon can cultivate spiritual awareness calling us to become one in God’s truth. The Holy Face of Christ, or also called The Icon Not Painted By Human Hands will be the focus of our experience in the workshop. We welcome you to experience icons as a vehicle of witness and ministry.

The morning with include instruction, group sharing and a time for contemplative experience.

Debra Korluka was born and raised in the Russian Orthodox Church in America. The past 25 years of her life have been devoted to art, 15 to iconography.   "It is through my icon painting, that my pilgrimage is expressed as a transformative journey embracing joy and fortitude, a dialogue seeking the Face of Christ in every individual that I encounter."  You can read more about Debra and her work at  korlukastudios.com
