Puberty Happens Training for Educators

March 15 & 17, 2022

3:00-4:30

Join colleagues from around the state to learn how to implement Maine Family Planning’s Puberty Happens curriculum in your school or organization. Puberty Happens is a 3-unit curriculum, aligned with the Maine Learning Results, addressing the social, physical, and emotional changes of puberty for youth in grades 4-6.

This is a two-session webinar series and we encourage participants to attend both, if possible. The first session will explore the contents and activities in the curriculum, how to use inclusive language and respond to student questions. The second session will address how to deliver the curriculum, along with adaptations for a hybrid setting, how to partner with parents and families, and explore Maine resources and online tools.

As a result of the training, participants will:

  • explore specific lessons and activities in the curriculum’s three units: puberty changes, changing bodies, and changing relationships.
  • increase comfort level and demonstrate skills in delivering lessons on puberty topics.
  • describe ways to create a gender inclusive environment.
  • practice responding to student questions.
  • identify resources and tools available to support curriculum implementation.
  • learn strategies for communicating and collaborating with administrators, staff and families in implementing a puberty unit.
  • network with other educators delivering puberty education throughout Maine.
