Attacks on sex education are appearing in communities around the country with a common theme of banning education that affirms and celebrates diversity and is inclusive of sexual orientation and gender identity. These movements come at a time when there is overwhelming support for sex education in schools. We need to be prepared to show support for diversity, address misinformation, and continue to provide youth with the comprehensive sex education they deserve. Join Out Maine and Maine Family Planning in learning about the proven benefits of providing inclusive, age appropriate sex education and strategies for educating young people about the diversity in gender and sexual orientation. We will identify tactics that are attempting to disrupt education for our youth, effective ways to respond to misinformation, and ways to garner support for inclusive sex ed.
As a result of this webinar, participants will:
- Be aware of movements and tactics used to attack and ban sex education in schools.
- Identify strategies for garnering support in schools and communtities for inclusive sex education.
- Identify positive messages that counter misinformation about what is taught in sex education.
- Locate age-appropriate K-12 sex education standards.
