Adolescent nonsuicidal self-injury remains a challenging area of psychopathology and relational treatment. In this course, participants will explore existing research on relational patterns and characteristics in adolescents affected by self-injury and begin to explore the emerging science of family resilience in this population.

Course Objectives:

  1. Understand relationships between nonsuicidal self-injury and interpersonal functioning, intrapersonal functioning, and comorbidity.
  2. Compare the ways that research on adolescent self-injury and interpersonal functioning, especially in the family system, highlight and obscure family functioning.
  3. Explore new research on adolescent nonsuicidal self-injury and family resilience.
  4. Apply relational understanding of self-injury and family resilience to a case study.
