Dr. Arie Kaufman
April 29, 2014
8:30 am - 10:00 am
"Dr. Kaufman will discuss the development of volume visualization techniques used in scientific visualization and virtual reality applications, such as architectures for volume rendering, methods for accelerating volume rendering, development of tools for visualization, volume graphics, volume modeling and manipulation, and volume visualization for applications such as medicine, flight simulation and scientific visualization. He will also discuss a comprehensive visualization tool, the VolVis system, which provides a flexible tool for use by the scientist and engineer as well as the visualization developer and researcher, with applications ranging from geophysics to biomedical sciences."
Dr. Arie E. Kaufman is a Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Computer Science Department, the Director of the Center of Visual Computing (CVC), and a Distinguished Professor of Radiology at Stony Brook University. Dr. Kaufman is internationally recognized for his contributions to information technology and specifically to visualization and graphics. He was elected to the highest level of a Fellow of IEEE "for contributions to and leadership in visualization and computer graphics" and received the prestigious IEEE Visualization Career Award "for seminal work in the theory and practice of volume visualization." . Arie has conducted research for over 35 years in visualization, graphics, virtual reality, user interfaces, multimedia, and their applications, especially in biomedicine. He has published extensively totaling in excess of 260 refereed papers, books, and book chapters, more than 220 conference presentations and non-refereed manuscripts, and has been awarded/filed more than 30 patents, most of which have been licensed.
