Wraparound Facilitator Training: Managing Difficult Team Members and Situations

Facilitating wraparound teams is a complex process, sometimes likened to herding cats! This session will provide facilitators with tools and strategies for managing the moments when wraparound planning in team meetings becomes complicated by the interactions and expectations of the team members. This session will examine and provide practice opportunities for facilitator interventions directed at managing conflict as it occurs in teams, supporting team members in building and maintaining quality team participation, and addressing many of the ways that team planning meetings can be diverted or derailed. Facilitators will be encouraged during this session to build their own inventory of interventions they can call on when these things happen in their meetings.

Learning Objectives

1.)    Participants will learn to apply an understanding of the roots of conflict in teams to the teams they get to facilitate

2.)    Participants will learn and practice tools and strategies for assisting teams in making complex and difficult decisions about the plans of care they develop, improve, and implement

3.)    Participants will identify and practice a variety of responses to team member behaviors that roadblock or distract from effective wraparound team meetings

4.)    Participants will begin or, add to, a personalized inventory of tools and interventions for assisting teams in difficult moments
