Wraparound Facilitator Training: Creating Space for a Discussion of Alternatives

Wraparound processes are mission driven. The mission is to support youth and families in being safe and together in community as much as possible. Teams, the families they support, team members themselves, and the organizations they represent often struggle with finding unique ways to help in complicated situations. This leads to a reliance on formal services in service plans as well as a sense of frustration for families and team members alike. This session will examine tools and techniques used by wraparound facilitators to set the stage for building truly individualized and unique responses to one ‘family at a time.’ Facilitators will explore ways to help teams realize their capacity to build help plans that are different than those they have participated in through other settings. Strategies for building hope in the conversation, challenging the status quo thinking, and creating a new and different conversation will be examined and practiced.

1.)    Participants will develop an understanding and sensitivity for why teams get stuck in old service-based expectations rather than easily find their way to new solutions

2.)    Participants will learn and practice techniques that hold teams accountable to the wrapround expectation that “help is more than services”

3.)    Participants will learn techniques for bridging through and past the expectation that “restrictive care may be the best care” which prevents teams from creating truly individualized responses for one family at a time

Participants will learn process steps useful in guiding a team to see new possibilities and options for help and support plans
