Barb Chamberlain is currently the Director of the Active Transportation Division at WSDOT, newly created in March of 2017. Barb led Washington Bikes for four years as executive director, during which time she was named the APBP Nonprofit Executive of the Year, then spent a year as chief strategic officer following the merger of WA Bikes with Cascade Bicycle Club to form the nation's largest statewide bicycle nonprofit.
Before entering the professional world of bike advocacy she started Spokane Bikes and spearheaded the annual celebration for several years as a volunteer, also serving on Spokane-area boards including those of the Spokane Regional Transportation Council and Empire Health Foundation. She led communications and public affairs at WSU Spokane for over 14 years after serving as the youngest woman ever elected to the Idaho State House and Senate and chairing the NIC Board of Trustees. Barb has been instrumental in getting active transportation project programs and projects funded and completed in Spokane and statewide.
PROGRAM AGENDA
Barb is a dynamic individual and speaker who will engage attendees in thinking about how streets that work for people walking and biking contribute to communities that work for everyone. She will also help us recognize the implicit messages about transportation equity and safety we encounter every day in our own work and in media coverage.
This program will be held at the Spokane Club from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM. Registration includes the presentation and breakfast. The Spokane Club is located at 1002 West Riverside Avenue.
