We are excited to welcome Climbing PoeTree
Over the last 14 years, Climbing PoeTree has infused our justice movements with healing and imagination, inspiring thousands through their award-winning hip hop theater, dual-voice spoken word, and grassroots organizing. Alixa and Naima have independently organized 33 national and international tours, taking their work from South Africa to Cuba, the UK to Mexico, and throughout the U.S. including 11,000 miles toured on a bus converted to run on recycled vegetable oil. Climbing PoeTree has been experienced at diverse venues from the Brooklyn Academy of Music to the United Nations, Harvard University to Rikers Island Prison.
Love Will Triumph! is a multimedia hip hop poetry performance and interactive workshop designed specially for the Deeper Change Forum, that aims to inspire radical imagination and truth telling as an act of resilience and agency. With soul stirring lyricism, Alixa and Naima will weave together their voices to tell powerful stories of love and liberation, state and personal violence, solutionary activism, and human transcendence. Participants will interact with and contribute to a tapestry of thousands of hand-written stories, undergo a writing exercise that trains the visionary muscle of the imagination, and unleash collaborative power to build bridges of empathy across the walls that try to divide us.
Climbing PoeTree has been featured alongside powerhouses such as Alice Walker, Alicia Keys, Danny Glover, Cornel West, Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli, Janelle Monáe, Little Dragon, and Angela Davis, who remarked, “Each time I have the pleasure of attending a performance by Climbing PoeTree, I feel enriched, renewed, and inspired.”
