Middle School: Geography, History & Economics, Oh My!
Professional Development

Join us as we explore the differences between traditional, command, and market economies.  We will demonstrate how having more money doesn't mean people are better off because of inflation.  We will also experience the pitfalls of trade barriers and gains of free trade.  This workshop will demonstrate how to implement fun, engaging, kinesthetic, and hands-on activities immediately in your classroom.

Each participant will receive a copy of Focus: Middle School World History (a $60 value) and a Virtual Economics Flash Drive 4.5 with over 1,500 lessons (a $160 value). The lessons demonstrated will correlate to 6th and 7th grade Oklahoma Academic Standards for the Social Studies; however, lessons are easily adapted to the high school level and many activities connect to moments in US History.

This workshop is free to teachers and substitute stipends are available up to $75. Lunch will be provided.

Presenter: Workshop and lesson demonstrations will be led by Brent Rempe. Mr. Rempe is an OCEE Master Teacher and the Education Director at WEOKIE Credit Union.

Participants will leave with:

  • FOCUS: MS World History Curriculum book with 23 engaging lessons
  • 6.5 Hours of Professional Development
  • Lunch provided

This workshop is provided free of charge with a grant from the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
