Small Animal Emergency Sheltering
Operations Level (Level 2)

 Kissimmee, Florida

Saturday, June 2 & Sunday, June 3, 2018

This course is certified by Florida Department of Emergency Management as course code FL-607

Please join the Florida State Animal Response Coalition team, Osceola County Animal Services, and Snip It for the Operations Level Emergency Animal Sheltering class.

Operations level will help qualify you for new roles during a disaster involving animals including possible Team Lead roles. This class expands on the learnings of the Level 1 course and challenges experienced shelter staff with scenarios of emergency sheltering during a disaster.
In the Operations Level class, you will be able to:
  • Understand how the Incident Command System is used in an emergency shelter
  • Reduce the spread of diseases & effectively decontaminate animals
  • Choose a location and design a shelter
  • Choose proper equipment and supplies
  • Create an animal intake process & procedure plan
  • Understand the responsibilities of Lead roles
  • Successfully and safely transport animals
Even if you have no interest in taking a leadership position at an emergency shelter, the skills and knowledge learned in this course will make you a valuable asset for any emergency shelter deployment. You will work in a team with other companion animal advocates to help enhance what you learn.

Tuition for this class has been paid for by a generous grant from the Florida Department of Emergency Management. Costs associated with a registrant (e.g., workbooks, administration, instructor expenses, etc.) are only reimbursed by the state when registrants complete the course. Cancellations and no shows add costs to FLSARC, a non-profit organization, and are not covered by the state grant. Please make every effort to honor your commitment to attend.

PREREQUISITES

NOTE: If the above certificates of completion are currently not part of your volunteer profile with FLSARC, please submit these certificates to volunteer@flsarc.org or your registration may be cancelled.
