Implantology from a Periodontist’s Playbook! Full circle.

Over the last several decades, advancements and the successes in implant dentistry have provided credible argument toward extraction rather than maintenance of hopeless teeth.

As a group, we have come far in our understanding of proper case selection, treatment planning and the communication needed among the implant team to secure optimal outcomes. In addition, exciting innovations in surgical techniques along with advancements in regenerative science have led to better surgical outcomes. Furthermore, with new digital technology, customizable prosthetic components and variety of available materials, restoring implants have become a true form of art.

Rightfully, this has led to our increased comfort and confidence when providing implants as a treatment option. As number of patients with dental implants increase, so does our need to implement careful and practical maintenance schedule.

In doing so we have recognized knowledge gaps and have learned that peri-implant maintenance starts from the beginning and encompasses all the principles mentioned above.

This lecture aims to provide valuable information regarding the principles that guide us before, during and after implant treatment to secure success of our therapy.
