Costume Society of America Western Region Event at the Portland Art Museum

Saturday - April 28 - 2018

Please join us in Portland for an event featuring two extraordinary
Artists, Lily Hope and Deborah Cooke, and a special guest lecturer, our very own Sarah Andrews-Collier.

CCNA: Interwoven Radiance

Organized by Tlingit artist and weaver Lily Hope, this exhibition in the Museum's Center for Contemporary Native Art celebrates the artistic achievements and vitality of Chilkat and Ravenstail weavers of the Northwest Coast-illuminating the philosophy and ways of life for women weavers.

And

Animating Life

Animating Life: The Art, Science, and Wonder of LAIKA, a groundbreaking, behind-the-curtain view into the visionary artistry and technology of the globally renowned animation studio. Please check this web article regarding Deborah's work:

Portland is a diverse and fascinating city, I think this event captures that diversity in looking at contemporary art based in ancient tradition and a modern technology built with traditional skills.

The day is scheduled to be this:

10:15 - We meet at the museum, spends some time with the weavings, Sarah Andrews-Collier is our resident expert and will be our first speaker.

11:00 - We are scheduled to start skyping with Lily Hope, if it is too loud in the museum, we'll take a quick walk (2 mins) to Portland State University, where we can hear and see Lily for a q&a.

12:00 - 1:30 - We'll take a lunch break, with so many great restaurants in the neighborhood, I had to add extra time!

1:30 - Meet back at the museum to meet with Costume Designer Deborah Cooke to explore the Laika exhibit.

 2:30-3 - Wrap up.

Space is limited so sign up soon!
