The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at Georgia Southern University cordially invites you to participate in a unique concert-lecture event!

The Great Minds Lecture Series is an outreach program designed to introduce the community to outstanding CLASS faculty members and to offer a glimpse at the fascinating scholarship taking place in the College. The lectures give us the opportunity to connect with friends and alumni and to provide a valuable resource to the community. Attendees will experience first-hand the expertise of CLASS faculty and will engage in conversations about topics of interest and current events.

Click the links below to learn more about the series, or email Andrea Bennett, the CLASS director of communications and outreach.

We look forward to seeing you at the lecture.

Sincerely,

Election Songs Throughout History
Dr. Allen Henderson |  Department of Music
With special guests Drs. Patrick Novotny and Richard Pacelle | Department of Political Science

If you think modern political advertisements are divisive, join the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences to hear and discuss the the historical political campaign songs that politicians – particularly those who ran prior to the advent of television – used to promote their candidates and villify their opponents.

Historic figures who used campaign songs during their run for office include Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, Andrew Johnson, Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, Jimmy Carter, and Franklin Roosevelt. Come hear what they had to say for – and about – themselves and their opponents!

Political science professors Drs. Patrick Novotny and Richard Pacelle will help frame the political context of the songs while Dr. Allen Henderson and guest musicians perform.

Arrive early to attend a Get-Out-The-Vote Rally under the Russell Union Rotunda featuring representatives from candidates seeking election in November!
