The  Center for Autism Research (CAR) is a collaborative research center between The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania. CAR's primary mission is to understand the causes of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and develop effective treatments through research with infants through adults. Families who participate receive comprehensive assessment reports and are paid for their time and some travel expenses. CAR is also committed to serving the needs of families living with ASD through education and guidance. The new CAR Autism Roadmap seeks to help families answer questions about life with autism, whether they are new to the diagnosis or have lived with it for years, as well as connect them with resources in their communities via the CAR Resource Directory.

Virtual Next Steps into Adulthood Workshop

A Workshop for Parents/ Caregivers/ Professionals who support a young adult on the Autism Spectrum

The transition from adolescence into adulthood can be an exciting, yet daunting time for young adults on the Autism Spectrum and their families. Preparing for adulthood may involve entering a new environment, graduating from school, handling different social situations and responsibilities, and accepting changes in a comfortable routine.

CAR is presenting a virtual workshop, focused on providing an overview of some of the factors to consider when supporting individuals who are transitioning into the adult world. Presenters will share ideas, resources, and tools covering topics such as setting reasonable expectations and goals, financial planning and promoting self-advocacy and independence.

Please reach out with any questions.

This workshop will be offered free of charge, but you must register in advance, as space is limited.

A few days prior to the workshop, you will receive an email with a private link with instructions for joining as a virtual participant, along with a packet of materials for the workshop.

Online participation is limited to 75 registrants.
