2017 Early Learning Summit to Advance Parent Education
9am to 9:25am Welcome, Introduction, and ObjectivesJoel Ryan, Executive Director of the Washington State Association of Head Start and ECEAP will welcome guests and talk about the key objectives and goals of the summit.
9:25am to 9:30:am Perspective from a Head Start Parent
Christiana Clinton, a former Head Start parent and full time college student will share her experiences and provide some inspiration for today’s work.
9:30am to 10am Region X Office of Head Start
Kathy Schuknecht from the Region X Office of Head Start will be joining us to talk about what Head Start programs are doing to successfully support programs in advancing parent education.
10am to 10:45am Three Washington Bright Spots
Mary Ellen Lykins, Directors of Early Learning at Skagit Island College and Shelly Knight, from ESD 113, and Michelle Murphy, of the Lower Columbia College Head Start and ECEAP Program will share their innovative programming.

11am to 12 noon Lane County Oregon SEEKERS Project
Tim Rochholz and his team from Lane County Head Start will share information about their SEEKERS project which provides high level internships to parents interesting in serving as Head Start teachers.
12noon to 1pm Lunch with Keynote Speaker

1pm to 2pm PICA Head Start from Minnesota
Monshari Chandler, Director of Education and Candee Melin, Director of Children Services, from PICA Head Start will discuss ways to engage Head Start and Early Head Start parents in a variety of training opportunities that promote and provide hands-on training with the goal to obtain living wage jobs in high demand fields.
2pm to 2:45pm Skagit Valley College: Effective Partnership with High School and College Completion Programs
Jennifer Boland, Chair of the College and Career Bridge, Joan Youngquist, Dean of the Basic Education and Transitional Programs from Skagit Valley College, and Jean Markert, High School Completion Coordinator, will discuss their work to support students in advancing their education.

3pm to 3:45pm ECEAP Mobility Mentoring Project
Cathy Garland, Director of Early Learning at Children’s Home Society and Karen Ganz from the Department of Early Learning will discuss the work of the Mobility Mentoring project underway at the Department of Early Learning and how it is assisting parents in advancing their education and leading to self-sufficiency.
