Vanina is Director Vaccine Policy and Corporate Responsibility, Europe/ Canada at Merck, a US pharmaceuticals company, known as MSD outside the US and Canada.
In 2002, Vanina received her Master's degree in European Legal Studies from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium. She was then called to the Bar in Strasburg, France. Vanina started her career with the US law firm Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton in Brussels in competition law. As of 2003, she joined the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), a public-private partnership, first as Chief, Office of the President and subsequently as Program Officer in Geneva where she was in charge of fundraising, as well as of managing the International Finance Facility for immunization (IFFIm). Before joining Merck, Vanina worked for Sanofi Pasteur MSD in Policy Affairs.Vanina is also active in the not-for-profit sector, and she is the president of univers'Elles, an executive women's network in France.
