Iowa Wines & More - Wine Tasting
Iowa Wines and More is a wine shop in Harlan that only carries wines that are made in Iowa. They will be bring a variety of their stock for sampling on Friday evening. On Saturday evening we will have some time to go into Harlan for those that would like to purchase bottles.

Recycled Winebottle/Stain glass Windchimes
Corrine Peterson, Naturalist from the Pocahontas County Conservation Board will be joining us to teach us how to make beautiful windchimes using pieces of stained glass or wine bottles, beads, fishing line, and a stick.

Henna Tattoos
Henna Tattoos are decorative tattoos that are brown in color that will last approximately two weeks.  Shawnell Richter and Lydia Goehring will be hand applying unique designs using their own all natural henna paste recipe.

River Kayaking
The majority of Saturday will be spent kayaking from Nishna Bend Recreation Area in Shelby County to Botna Bend Park in Pottawattamie County on the Nishnabotna River. Nobody knows for sure what Nishnabotna means for certain but it does have something to do with canoeing (paddling). We will pass an eagle nest along the way and will stop for lunch and breaks on sandbars to look for bison bones and other treasures. Before we head out on the river we will talk about what to look for to keep us safe and making paddling easier on the river.

Kayak Fishing
We will spend a portion of Sunday morning doing a little fishing from our kayaks at Prairie Rose State Park. We will fish on the part of the lake that is not used as often. Prairie Rose Lake was renovated a few years ago and fishing has been fantastic since last year.

Dutch Oven Cooking
For lunch of Sunday we will prepare food and cook in Dutch ovens. We will go over basic care of Dutch ovens and make some delicious food.

Fly Tying
Anne Riordan from the Iowa DNR will lead us in making our own fishing flies while our Dutch oven lunch is cooking. You can take your flies home and either use them to fish or display them as your own work of art.
