Rabbit Hunting 101
Winter is 'prime time' for rabbit hunting because you can spot cottontails fairly easy against the snow.  There are many ways to hunt rabbits and lots of habitat types where rabbits are found. Learn about habitat specifics, gun and ammunition selection, rabbit hunting methods and meet the hard working dogs that will assist on this hunt. We'll partner up with a mentor and get the opportunity to go out hunting. Please note: Hunter education and a hunting license/habitat stamp required. Contact Rachel Ladd at 515-729-6037 or Rachel.Ladd@dnr.iowa.gov for assistance.

Fur Trapping 101
Fur trapping has a long history in the U.S. and still maintains an aura of nostalgia. Find out how the mountain men of yore actually made their living trapping animals for fur.  This session is an introduction to Trapping Basics. We’ll discuss general equipment, techniques, set types, lures, trapping safety, wildlife identification, and much more!  The afternoon session will discuss fur processing for selling at fur markets.

Fur and Game Processing
Congratulations! You successfully harvested a game species! Now what? Whether you are a fur trapper, fisherperson, or hunter, you WILL need to process your harvest in some way. Learn how to handle your furs for sale, clean fish and prepare game meat for extended storage, and turn your harvest into a tasty, and rewarding meal.

Registration is complete upon receipt of your registration, payment and your medical form.

Cancellations on or before January 11, 2019 will receive a refund minus a $25 administrative fee. Registrants who do not attend and who do not cancel by January 11, 2018 will be assessed the full program fee.

Participants understand that photographs may be taken during the session and may be used in future promotion of the program.

On the registration page, please make sure to choose one class for each of the sessions. Then we can ensure that you are registered for the morning session you want.
