Introduction to Fly Fishing

Meet at Crown Point Community Center in Johnston.
Join us at Terra Park for this fun and interactive beginner fly fishing workshop designed for individuals age 10 and older. Participants will learn key skills such basic equipment (rod, reel, line, flies) and basic casts. If you have your own equipment, please bring it with you. If not, we will provide the necessary equipment and flies.

This is a hands-on event. Participants will tie a basic fly, practice casting, and end the day fly fishing at Terra Lake. Youth must be accompanied by an adult.
If you are age 16 and older, you must have an Iowa Fishing License. Event registration is required.

How you can prepare:
- Register for the event.
- Check out fly fishing on the "Tutorials & Guides" page on the FirstCatchCenterIowa website for information.
- Wear sturdy shoes, and dress for the weather
- Bring a hat and sunglasses or safety glasses.
- Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated.

Schedule of events - 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
- Arrive and check in before 9:00 am.
- 9:00 am - 10:30 am - Basic fly fishing instruction - equipment, fly tying, fish identification and applicable regulations.
- 10:30 am - 11:30 am - Fly fishing techniques and casting practice.
- 11:30 am - 12:00 pm - Open fly fishing time at Terra Lake
