Women's Learn to Hunt: Upland Birds

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is offering a program to teach skills needed to hunt, field dress and cook upland birds to women who have little to no upland bird hunting experience.

The November 18th workshop will feature a three hour knowledge and skills building sessions with instructors that will teach the basics of upland hunting and wingshooting.

Participants will learn basic strategies for hunting upland birds such as proper equipment, where to hunt, safe shooting practices, and how to field dress, butcher and cook them.

The course runs from 6PM to 9PM and is designed for female participants 18 years of age and older.  The course is $45 and will be held at Olofson Shooting Range near Polk City, IA.  The event also includes two mentored hunts on Saturday November 19th and December 10th at Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge.  Space is limited so be sure to register right away.  Participants will receive a hat, vest and a membership provided by Pheasants Forever.

Students will need to complete hunter education prior to purchasing their hunting license for the class.  For more information on hunter education, please visit https://www.iowadnr.gov/hunting/hunter-education

Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) - The DNR manages fish and wildlife programs, ensures the health of Iowa’s forests and prairies, and provides recreational opportunities in Iowa’s state parks. Just as importantly, the DNR carries out state and federal laws that protect air, land and water through technical assistance, permitting and compliance programs. The DNR also encourages the enjoyment and stewardship of natural resources among Iowans through outreach and education.  Hunter Education Instructors and Conservation Officers will be on hand during the Iowa Hunt Social to answer questins about hunting regulations, hunter education requirements, places to hunt, fish, or shoot, upcoming hunter education classes, and other outdoor recreational pursuits and opportunities.
