Select USA Webinar - Foreign Direct Investment Success Stories

SelectUSA helps exporters and global traders compete by showcasing investment opportunities and bringing international investors and U.S. entities together.  This webinar will include highlights from recent Foreign Direct Investment success stories from diverse countries, companies and industries. SelectUSA will present its services including market research, programs to facilitate connections and services to help navigate the federal regulatory system.  There will also be a discussion on how to use publicly available tools on the Select USA website.  

Elizabeth Schaefer is the Director of the Investment Research Team at SelectUSA. Ms. Schaefer leads data, evaluation, and analytical work relating to foreign direct investment promotion in the United States. Prior to joining SelectUSA, Elizabeth served as an international macroeconomic expert with the ITA’s Office of Trade and Economic Analysis, providing decision makers with economically grounded, data-driven recommendations applicable to current trade and investment policy. She began her career at ITA as a Timothy J. Hauser Presidential Management Fellow and her previous federal work experience includes serving as an economist with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Before joining the federal service, Elizabeth consulted for the Air Force Office of the Surgeon General’s Chief Information Office. Elizabeth has an M.A. in Applied Economics from Johns Hopkins University and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Maryland.  

Jacqueline Vitello is the Deputy Director of Programs and Events at SelectUSA in the US Department of Commerce where she and her team focus on attracting job-creating foreign direct investment (FDI) to communities across the U.S. via innovative programming and both in-person and virtual events. Ms. Vitello is responsible for the annual SelectUSA Investment Summit, the largest public event that the Department of Commerce puts on, and her team also runs the Interagency Investment Working Group (IIWG), which aids foreign companies and economic developers in understanding and navigating federal regulations and policies related to FDI. Prior to her time at SelectUSA, Jacqueline worked in Chinese security policy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. She received her master’s in international security from the Korbel School at the University of Denver and her bachelor’s from the Florida State University. 

 

Ms. Samina Hamied - Executive Vice-Chairperson, Cipla. 

Samina Hamied is the Executive Vice-Chairperson of Cipla, and represents the third generation of the founding family of Cipla. An alumna of the London School of Economics, she has worked in the UK and the US with the leading global firm Goldman Sachs before joining the Cipla leadership team in 2011.

Samina joined Cipla as Executive Director and Global Head – Strategy, M&A and Cipla New Ventures. She has been instrumental in driving the Company’s current transformation agenda. Samina played a key role in successfully incubating and shaping Cipla Health Limited, spearheaded Cipla’s ambitious foray into the US market with strategic acquisitions. Samina has built a top-class leadership pipeline for the Company as it continues to spread its wings globally.

 As Executive Vice-Chairperson of Cipla, Samina focuses on board and governance issues, in addition to furthering Cipla’s strategic priorities through key global partnerships, corporate culture, hiring the right talent, and public advocacy.

 Today recognised as the face of Cipla, Samina has been feted for her diverse work experience and business knowledge. In 2017, she received the ‘Most Powerful Women in Business’ award from Business Today. In 2018, Forbes named Samina among the top 25 emergent women business leaders in Asia, and Fortune India named her among the most powerful women in business.
