Register to attend the 2019 Breakin' It Down Conference!

Launched in 2003, the Breakin' It Down conference grew out of a desire to engage diverse nonprofit management and fundraising professionals in conversations about the present state and future of the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. It is a joint effort of the Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP), Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in Development (APAID), Blacks in Development (BID), Center for Arab American Philanthropy (CAAP), Chicago African Americans in Philanthropy (CAAIP), Chicago Latinos in Philanthropy (CLIP), and Latinos in Development (LID). This year's theme is "Fulfilling the Promise".

At 2019 BID, we’re exploring the ways nonprofit professionals and philanthropists are realizing their promises given historic and systemic barriers, inspired by a Racial Equity framework and commitment to healing practices.

This one-day event incorporates concepts and strategies that enhance learning, such as:

  • Plenary Panel discussions, Workshops, and Speed Networking sessions that prioritize engagement and participation.
  • Templates, tools, and other takeaways from each session that you can implement immediately at your organization.
We want every attendee to leave this BID conference with increased knowledge, coupled with strategies and tools that they can use right away. Join us for this valuable nonprofit networking opportunity to meet with experts and your peers!

We're excited to announce we've expanded the format of our event to introduce our inaugural Denise Stennis Awards, named as a tribute to the late community leader and Breakin' it Down founding member Denise Stennis, whose dedication to expanding opportunity to diverse communities and nonprofit professionals was so important. The Awards celebrate champions of diversity, inclusion, and excellence in the fund development area of the Chicago nonprofit community.

The Denise Stennis Awards will be presented at the Breakin' it Down conference to honor a nonprofit professional in the fund development field and an organization that have a history of forming collaborations and a record of sustained impact in the field.

You can learn more about our speakers and agenda on our conference website, If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at

We’re expecting the 2019 BID Conference to sell out, so don’t miss this opportunity to reserve your spot!

We look forward to seeing you in October!
