Is Universal Health Care Possible in New York? - A SAPA Candid Conversation 

During the recent mid-term elections, the number one issue of concern in many parts of the country was affordable health care.  There is growing interest in a new model of national health insurance, similar to what exists in many other countries. But when the topic of a government-run health insurance program comes up, it invariable draws a variety of critics who say it isn't possible, it would be too expensive and much more.

In 2018, the New York Health Foundation commissioned a study by the Rand Corporation to analyze proposed legislation called the New York Health Act, which if enacted, would establish a single-payer health care system in New York.

The first part of this Candid Conversation will be about the current state of the health insurance markets and will be led by Donna Frescatore who oversees the Health Insurance Exchanges in New York established under the Affordable Care Act.  Donna, led a Candid Conversation in 2013 when the Exchanges were first being established.

Our second conversation leader will be Mark Zezza, PhD who is the Director of Policy and Research for the New York Health Foundation which commissioned the Rand study.  He will talk about the Rand study of the New York Health Act which, if enacted, would likely impact every New Yorker, regardless of their current health insurance coverage.
