Southeast Ohio Master Recycler Workshop

Are you passionate about recycling and composting? Have you always wanted to do more to help out in the world of zero waste? Then join Rural Action on July 21st and become a Master Recycler!

The Southeast Ohio Master Recycler Program workshop will take place on July 21st from 9 am to 5 pm at the ReUse MakerSpace in Athens, Ohio.

The Master Recycler program was designed to form a cohort of community members who will be trained on the ins and outs of zero waste practices that they can then pass on to others through community outreach and volunteer work. Whether you are just beginning your zero waste journey or are a resident expert, we welcome you to join our program!

The workshop, hosted by Rural Action's Zero Waste Program, will cover topics including: current local and global issues and successes in waste management, solid waste management basics, locally accepted recyclable materials, and home-composting principles. The workshop will also prepare participants to present workshops and programs on zero waste topics to other members of the community that are guided by best practices in education & behavior-change. Participants will receive take-home material packets of the information covered in the workshop.

Registration is open to anyone 18 and older, but space is limited and will be considered on a first-come first-served basis.

This is a free program. Light breakfast snacks will be provided. Bring your own lunch or help chip in $5 for pizza!

Additional details about the Master Recycler Program certification:

Participants will be expected to attend the full-day workshop on July 21st from 9am- 5pm.

We will also work together to schedule a tour of the Athens-Hocking Recycling Center, the Athens-Hocking Organics composting facility, and the Athens-Hocking Reclamation Center (landfill) for a future date.

Finally, participants will be expected to volunteer 20 hours of time over the next year toward waste-related causes. We will provide a list of volunteer opportunities at the workshop, but participants are encouraged to develop their own project ideas to work on!

At the completion of these requirements, you will earn a Southeast Ohio Master Recycler certificate from Rural Action.
