Critically acclaimed Chicago-based writer Fern Schumer Chapman has written several award-winning books. Her memoir, MOTHERLAND -- a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection, a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award, and a BookSense76 pick -- is a popular choice for book clubs. Her other books, IS IT NIGHT OR DAY?, LIKE FINDING MY TWIN, and STUMBLING ON HISTORY are used in middle school classrooms. In 2004, the Illinois Association of Teachers of English (IATE) named Chapman the "Illinois Author of the Year." Twice, Oprah Winfrey shows have featured her books.

THE UNBREAKABLES is the captivating tale of Sophie Bloom, a woman from the Chicago suburbs who jets off to France after her “perfect” marriage collapses, putting the broken pieces of herself back together while reviving her own joie de vivre.  There, in the City of Light, Sophie begins the difficult journey of self-rediscovery. The trail takes her south to the artistic hub of Saint-Paul-de-Vence. In this beautiful and seductive town, she embraces her desires, unearthing her sensuality and reclaiming her passion for sculpting. Sophie becomes a “ghost sculptor” --  working with a famous French artist who is dying. Together, they create “Eve”—a masterpiece of the Biblical heroine. Ultimately, as Sophie comes to terms with who she is now and what she wants for her next chapter, she must figure out how the pieces of her past and present fit together. This powerful novel reflects second chances, female bonding, finding love again, empowerment, and embracing the truths that set us free. Publishers Weekly says THE UNBREABABLES is an "exquisitely wrought novel that will appeal to readers who believe in the redemption of new beginnings ..."

Lisa Barr is the award-winning author of  THE UNBREAKABLES (Harper, June 4), and the historical thriller FUGITIVE COLORS, a suspenseful tale of stolen art, love, lust, deception, and revenge on the eve of World War II. In addition, Lisa has served as an editor for The Jerusalem Post, managing editor of Today’s Chicago Woman, managing editor of Moment magazine, and an editor/reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times. Among the highlights of her career, Lisa covered the famous handshake between the late Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, the late PLO leader Yasser Arafat, and President Bill Clinton at the White House.
