Central Coast Section of the American Planning Association - 2017 Ventura County Planning Academy 

The Planning Academy provides an engaging opportunity for citizens to learn about community planning, public involvement, governmental organization, and other related land use issues. This event series includes 6 evening sessions and occurs Thursdays from 6 PM to 8 PM, beginning 10/5/2017 and ending 11/9/2017.

  • Long-Range Planning and General Plans in Ventura County. Presented by Chris Stephens, County of Ventura Resource Management Agency.
  • History of Agriculture in Ventura County. Presented by John Krist, Farm Bureau of  Ventura County
• Week 2: October 12, 2017; Housing Night
  • The Economic Drivers for Housing in Ventura County. Presented by Dr. Jamshid Damooei, California Lutheran University.
  • Affordable Housing Panel Discussion. Panelists include Sandy Smith (Ventura County Civic Alliance / Economic Development Collaborative of Ventura County), Linda Braunshweiger (Ventura County Housing Trust Fund), Micheal Nye (Area Housing Authority), Drew Powers (City of Thousand Oaks), and Dr. Jamshid Damooei (California Lutheran University)
• Week 3: October 19, 2017; Hot Topics Night
  • High Profile Ordinances and Regulations. Presented by Michelle D'Anna, Central Coast Section of the American Planning Association.
  • Uncovering the Environmental Impacts of Cannabis Cultivation. Presented by Aubrey Mescher and Lindsey Sarquilla, Rincon Consultants Inc.
  • Local Cannabis Regulation in California and the Central Coast. Presented by Mindy Fogg and Jessica Metzger, County of Santa Barbara.
• Week 4: October 26, 2017; Transit and Growth Forum
  • Pedestrian and Bicycle Mobility Panel. Panelists include Darren Kettle (Ventura County Transportation Commission), Jeff Hereford (City of Ventura, Public Works), and David Fleisch (County of Ventura, Transportation Department)

• Week 5: November 2, 2017; CEQA Night
  • CEQA Refresher. Presented by Joe Power, Rincon Consultants Inc.
  • CEQA Updates and Hot Topics. Presented by Laura Kaufman and Dr. Wayne Bischoff, Envicomm Corporation.
• Week 6: November 9, 2017; Water Issues and Regulation
  • Water Supply and Assessment. Presented by Patrick Reeves and Greg Musser, Encompass Consulting Group.
  • Planning Issues in the Coastal Zone. Presented by Amanda Fagan (Naval Base Ventura County), Kathleen Mallory (City of Oxnard Planning), and TBA.
