Conference for Youth Professionals
"Life After High School"
 

Workforce Solutions East Texas invites you to join us for an upcoming Youth Professionals Conference: "Life After High School". The conference will be held at Green Acres Baptist Church CrossWalk Conference Center in Tyler on October 13, 2015.

Join us for an informative conference featuring keynote speakers and breakout sessions including topics such as working with children with disabilities and a House Bill 5 update. Nationally known motivational speaker, Jimmy Cabrera, will present, "What’s In Your Backpack?  Packing for Success in Life.”

Cost to attend is $30, and includes breakfast and lunch buffets. CEUs are available.

Christi Khalaf, Director – Tyler Area Business-Education Council
The Tyler Area Business-Education Council was formed in 2012 with the goal of improving education outcomes to support business and economic development in the Tyler area. Christi will provide an overview of the activities of the Business Education Council and their latest initiative to improve post-secondary attainment – the Tyler Area Partnership 4 Education.

Adrian Knight, Federal Programs Coordinator – Region 7 Education Service Center
House Bill 5 (HB5), which was passed during the 83rd Regular Legislative Session, made changes to Texas Education Code (TEC) in many areas including curriculum, accountability, graduation and assessment. HB5 has ushered a more flexible graduation program which allows students to pursue their interests by choosing career related endorsements. Adrian will offer an update on House Bill 5 implementation in East Texas.

Dr. Brandi Levingston, Senior Lecturer at the University of North Texas in the Department of Disability and Addiction Rehabilitation; and Crystal George, Program Manager for University of North Texas' Workplace Inclusion & Sustainable Employment (UNTWISE)
Brandi and Crystal will make a presentation on Working with Youth with Disabilities. Attendees will learn about services for youth with disabilities and about strategies for working with youth with disabilities transitioning from high school to post-secondary education or work.
