Project wild workshop for Teachers
Explore and understand black bears in Colorado through hands-on learning activities from the newly updated Project WILD K-12 Curriculum & Activity guide!
- CPW experts will expand your background knowledge surrounding black bear ecology, safety, human-bear conflicts, research, and management.
- Experience new academic activities focusing on bears to apply both inside and outside your classroom.
- Visit local outdoor sites and discover ideas for infusing wildlife education into place-based teaching.
- Take home new instructional resources including the Project WILD Guide and tools for teaching about bears and how to help keep them wild.
Delta OUT
- This workshop is part of the ‘Delta Outdoor Understanding for Teachers’ professional development program. Delta and Olathe area teachers attending this workshop, plus two other 1-day OUT workshops are eligible for CPW site field trip transportation matching grants and equipment loans. Registration Fee
- The fee for this workshop is a daily parks pass to Ridgway State Park (can be paid upon entry to the park). All vehicles entering the park must have a daily parks pass or current annual pass. The fee for the daily pass is $7.00.
Credit
- A 0.5 continuing education credit from Colorado School of Mines is available for an additional fee of $40. Participants can register and pay for credit (by check only) at the workshop.
- A ‘Delta OUT WILD About Bears’ Certificate of Completion will be provided to all participants.
What to Expect & Bring:
- We will begin this workshop in the conference room at Ridgway State Park at 8:30 a.m. and carpool to nearby Billy Creek State Wildlife Area later in the day.
- Be prepared for varying levels of activity in the outdoors. Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.
- You'll want to bring a sack lunch, small backpack, full waterbottle, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
