Social Media Training on Hazards Risk
for Government Officials
Social media provides the ability to expand the reach of an organization’s outreach efforts by allowing instant communication with stakeholders anywhere, anytime, from any device. Stakeholders can in turn amplify key messages to their own friends and followers. Social media provides a forum for two-way communication that brings valuable results when executed effectively. While Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, and other social media outlets are excellent low-investment high-return tools, the social media waters can be challenging to navigate. Risk Assessment, Mapping, and Planning Partners (RAMPP) Social Media Training, offered via the Federal Emergency Management Agency, can help demystify social media, allowing users to fully recognize and benefit from the opportunities it presents.
RAMPP's interactive social media training, led by two experienced social media instructors, shows participants how to:
• Efficiently weave social media into current outreach efforts
• Encourage personnel to act as online ambassadors
• Distill information into clear, concise, and cogent messaging appropriate for social media
• Diversify social media presence using written content, photos, and video
• Avoid pitfalls and controversy
Please join us for a social media training offering designed specifically for community officials, emergency managers, floodplain managers, and anyone responsible for communicating on behalf of your town or borough.
This training is provided by FEMA via RAMPP (Risk Assessment, Mapping, and Planning Partners) and facilitated by Sustainable Jersey’s NJ Resiliency Network.
In advance of the training, please take a few moments to complete the following brief (just 8 questions), anonymous questionnaire; this will help us tailor the training session to meet your specific needs: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KSH99PD
You may wish to bring your laptop, tablet or smart phone, but it is not required.
