Listening to how our customers describe their experiences has long been a focus at Principal. In this presentation, we’ll discuss how we are leveraging customer’s written and oral communications though the use of text analytics. We’ll highlight the business decisions we are influencing, the technologies we are leveraging, the analytic approaches we are using, and the lessons we have learned on our journey.

Panel Bios:
Kyle Johnson, FSA, CERA, is an Assistant Actuary at Principal Financial Group, a financial investment management and insurance company. Johnson enjoys finding creative ways to use data to inform decisions and uncover hidden relationships in everyday life. Analytical areas where Johnson has spent time include Natural Language Processing, Customer Segmentation, Mortality Modeling, and Disability Pricing. Outside of work, Johnson enjoys reading and exercise outdoors.
Joel Rosenberg is a Sr. Insights Analyst on the Analytics and Business Intelligence team. In his current role he’s a liaison between the data scientists and business partners, helping drive out business strategies with a multitude of analytical solutions. Previously he held roles within the IT analytics space, assisting in driving out a big data strategy. Recently he’s spent a lot of his time in the voice analytics space as well as fraud and optimization business problems.
Jesse Waitman is a Lead Developer on the Corporate Systems Support Insights team at Principal Financial Group. He focuses on Data Engineering & enjoys finding creative solutions to support advanced analytical needs. Jesse has 5 years of experience in Information Technology at Principal. Prior to his current role, Jesse helped implement a Big Data Strategy providing Enterprise Data for analytical purposes. Jesse has recently focused on data engineering in the client interaction & customer sentiment space.
Andrew Walling has over 13 years of business analysis experience and is currently a Sr. Business Analyst for Principal Financial Group. He is a graduate of Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems. For the past 5 years, Andrew has been working in data and analytics, supporting both backend ETL/warehousing and business intelligence by bringing insights “to the glass”.
Andrew has previously presented at IBADD 2016, Building Business Capabilities 2016, and DAMA Day 2017.
