Carl Chinn was a civilian responder two different times when a gunman came to a ministry (two separate ministries). In the first (Focus on the Family, May 2nd, 1996) Chinn and three others were held hostage by the gunman.
Chinn and the others were caught unprepared and unsuspecting.
The next time (New Life Church, December 9th, 2007) Chinn was part of an intentional team that intervened after a killer had killed two girls in the parking lot and was entering towards the sanctuary. That killer was stopped in the hallway with deadly force.
That team was prepared.
He has been speaking to churches and faith-based organizations since 1997 on the value of prepared intentional readiness. Being prepared for high-risk, low probability dangers means you are better prepared for the more common smaller incidents.
Chinn is now President of the Faith Based Security Network which is a professional membership association of liked-minded, responsible defenders.
