Education Docent Training - MUSD 6th Grade Owl Hollow Field Trips

=

The San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust is always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us run our River Field Trip Education Programs.  If you’re interested in working with Madera Unified 6th grade students and introducing them to the San Joaquin River ecosystem  by becoming an Education Docent, join us at this training to learn more about these field trips!

This training introduces Education Docents to the River Field Trip Program offered by the River Parkway Trust and prepares them to assist with Madera Unified 6th Grade field trips at Owl Hollow.  Every MUSD 6th grade classroom will attend this trip. Field trips typically take place between 9 am- 1 pm on weekdays October-December. Education docents assist with field trips by leading one of the day's activities or assisting a paid staff member with an activity throughout the day.

Topics will include:

  • Brief program overview and orientation
  • Leading a field trip and group management
  • Demonstrations of field trip activities
  • How to set up a field trip
  • Leading a nature walk

Activities for this trip type incude:

  • Hooks and Ladders (salmon life cycle obstacle course activity)
  • Low ropes course teambuilding
  • Habitat Jenga (a resource sharing jenga game)
  • Nature Walk

We will meet at the River Center before moving to Owl Hollow for the majority of the day. Please dress appropriately and be prepared to spend the morning time outside, possibly walking on uneven terrain.  Light snacks/refreshments will be provided.
