The Asian Pacific American Legal Resource Center will be proudly celebrating our 15th anniversary on May 1, 2013. For fifteen years, we have worked hard to advance the civil and legal rights of Asian Americans in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Northern Virginia through community legal education, advocacy and direct legal assistance to thousands of individuals and families. We could not have made it this far without your support! You make it possible for the APALRC to extend the much-needed legal assistance to this population that is often deprived of justice because of language barriers, immigration status, race or national origin.
We invite you to join us to commemorate this important milestone on May 1st at the China Garden Restaurant in Rosslyn, VA for an event-filled night including an authentic Chinese banquet dinner and a silent auction. Unfortunately, Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez, who was originally scheduled to keynote our celebration, is no longer able to attend. However, he has graciously helped in finding a distinguished and highly-esteemed individual to speak in his place. The APALRC is proud to annouce that Deputy Special Counsel Seema Nanda, from the US Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division Office of Special Counsel for Immigration Related Unfair Employment Practices will be our keynote speaker at this year's celebration.
We are also excited to announce that the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Greater Washington, D.C. is the recipient of the 15th anniversary Access to Justice Award to honor and recognize the 15+ years of dedicated work that APABA-DC and its membership has provided to create, nurture, and support the APALRC.
In addition, we will feature the photography of visual fine artist, Tu Ying-ming at our silent auction. "Tu-2," as he is affectionately known, has just completed a residency at the O Street Museum in Washington, D.C. He has generously donated photographs taken during his travels through Tibet, Nepal, and Guatemala to support the work of the APALRC. We urge you to bring your checkbook and bid on one of these photographs to show off in your office or your home.
Registration will close on April 19.
