Title IX Regulations Compliance Training

(previoulsy recorded)

Program Description:

Effective August 14, 2020, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights requires K-12 schools to respond to Title IX sexual harassment claims in compliance with the new Title IX regulations that are very different from previous regulations and guidance.

These regulations provide for a startling and fundamental shift from existing school district practices requiring training and changes to school district policies and procedures regarding sexual harassment.

School districts are required to train all administrators involved in managing, investigating, and deciding sexual harassment complaints and must ensure the compliance training and conducting of the investigations is free of bias.

The new regulations require the involvement of 3 – 4 different individuals to address sexual harassment complaints: a Title IX Coordinator, who receives the report and manages the process; a Title IX Investigator to investigate the report (can be the same individual as your Title IX Coordinator), a Title IX decision-maker to determine the results of the report and implement the necessary response, and a separate compliance officer for appeals.

About the Trainers:

Peters Kalail & Markakis are teaming up with renowned federal compliance expert Attorney Katie Clifford to provide K-12 administrators with a series of compliance trainings to provide an understanding of their rights and responsibilities to address, intervene, report, investigate, and prevent sexual misconduct under the Title IX regulations.

Attorney Katie Clifford is a Legal Education Consultant focusing in areas of state and federal compliance for K-12 and Higher Education, specifically in the field of Title IX.  Formerly serving as the Ohio Attorney General’s Education Law Section Chief and a school district legal counsel for Ohio school districts, Katie offers a breadth of experience in education law, advising and representing schools, districts, colleges, and universities of all types and sizes on matters ranging from campus safety to sex discrimination to employment disputes.

                               KATIE CLIFFORD, ESQ.
