Up from Aunt Jemimaism: Tales from the Dorsey Plot at Grove Cemetery

Join us at the Grove Cemetery chapel for a brief overview and then take a short walk to the Dorsey Plot. Town of Ulysses historian John Wertis will introduce the group to Riche Richardson's  book, "Emancipation's Daughters" and the concepts of Mammyism/Aunt Jemimaism. He’ll refer to individual burials to tell the story of the Dorsey Family and how each successive generation of women made steps away from negative stereotyping.

Location and parking information: Please parallel park on Cemetery Road next to Smith Woods and Grove Cemetery. No parking in the Grove Cemetery or on Falls Road. Please bring a folding chair. We will be walking and sitting outdoors, so please come prepared with a hat, sunscreen, bug spray, and water.
