An African Creation Myth

A dance/theater adaptationof the book of the same title,

written by Dr. David Anderson

Origin PhotoAshé Cultural Arts Center is proud to present one of its signature performances.  A superb dance/theater production, The Origin of Life on Earth is an African Creation Myth that tells the story of how Earth and the first people were created, according to the Yoruba Culture of West Africa.  This creation story connects the African Diaspora to the arrival of West Africans in New Orleans and their legacy in New Orleans culture and tradition.  The original dance/theater production has a cast that includes master dancers, theater artists and musicians that bring this story to life.

The production uses the concept of storytelling and combines spoken word with images presented from dance and film, with music provided by musicians and vocalists.  The production combines the elements of the griot (storyteller) with a Vorchestra, film and dancers.  The script is an adaptation of the book by the same title written by David Anderson and adapted by New Orleans playwright and director Chakula cha Jua.

Suitable for all age groups, we are delighted to share this production with you for only $5 admission, the normal cost of a school field trip.  We hope to see you there.
