Special Olympics Wyoming Global Messenger Training

Who:  Athletes interested in representing Special Olympics Wyoming through public speaking opportunities.

We’re looking for athletes that are passionate about the program and are able to express themselves clearly.    We recommend athletes be at least 16 years of age.

Mentors to serve as Speech Coaches.  Mentors provide support to their respective Global Messenger in the preparation of presentations and arrange local speaking opportunities.  Special Olympics encourages someone other than a family member to serve as a mentor.

Also: Veteran Global Messengers; Those athletes that have received training and presented, will  be part of the presenter team.  Note: If you are a veteran and interested om presenting, you must contact Tammie Bertelson or Priscilla Dowse by May 1st.

What: The workshop is participation based, providing athletes and their mentors the tools and skills to speak on behalf of Special Olympics Wyoming. Participants will be introduced to the Athlete  Leadership Programs (ALP’s), become familiar with presentation materials, learn appropriate dress and behavior and demonstrate an understanding of the mission of Special Olympics.

So much to learn, so much fun!

Each athlete (Global Messenger) must commit to schedule and make two  presentations in their  own community during the year following the training. In addition, athletes may be asked to represent Special Olympics     Wyoming at statewide events

Leadership Opportunities Special Olympics Wyoming has sent global Messengers to Washington DC to speak on behalf of the organization. We will hear from those athletes and discuss future opportunities for athletes to teach our communities about Special Olympics. Global Messenger training is one avenue to reach our goals regarding athlete leadership.
