Design and Construction of BNSF Br. 58.8 over Wind River

Presented by: Ashley Cook, PE from HNTB

Presentation of the design and replacement of BNSF Br 58.8 on the Northern Bank of the Columbia River Gorge. Accelerated bridge construction methods used include construction of substructure units while existing bridge in service, prefabricated approach spans, erection of the new truss off-site on barge, marine transportation upriver, barge platforms for the float-out of the old truss and float-in of the new truss, strand jack lifting system for the float-in, and ballasting system for the float-out and the demolition of the existing truss.

  

Design of CTA Red-Purple Bypass Flyover

This presentation will share some of the design considerations specific the Red-Purple Bypass (RPB) area. The RPB project scope consists of three unique items:

-       Design of the new, permanent Flyover structure

-       Design of a temporary track structure to facilitate construction staging

- Rehabilitation of a 115-year old existing structure that the Flyover ties into
