BeeSpeakSTL welcomes Dr. Dale Hill

There is a growing body of evidence showing that poor nutrition has a major affect on the honey bee's overall health and developmentHoney bee nutrition is an important area of research and focus as they are the most economically valuable pollinators of agricultural crops.

BeeSpeakSTL welcomes Dr. Dale Hill, animal nutrition consultant and primary developer of Dadant's AP23 pollen substitute.

Dr. Hill will cover a number of topics including:

  • Basics of honey bee nutrition
  • How nutrition affects honey bee development and ability to overwinter
  • Plants and their honey production potential based on pollen quality and nectar production

Dr. Hill is the current president of the Illinois State Beekeepers Association, co-author of the Honey Bee Nutrition chapter in the newest edition of The Hive and The Honey Bee and teaches the nutrition section of the University of Montana School of Extended & Lifelong Learning Master Beekeeping course.

We will break from noon to 1pm for light snacks.  If you choose to leave for lunch, MoBot has a on-premise cafe or you may patronize any number of local area restaurants.

BeeSpeakSTL ticket price includes admission for the day to the garden grounds and cafe.  Garden admission ticket must be obtained at the BeeSpeakSTL check-in table beginning at 9:00 a.m.
