Hampton Roads, Let's Get Ready

TOGETHER!

Emergency Shelter Exercise for People with Disabilities & Access/Functional Needs

Wonder how it would be to spend time in an emergency shelter during a major storm?  If you or your loved one have a disability or access and functional needs and would like to help us improve emergency sheltering plans in Hampton Roads, please join us for preparedness information, a preparedness token of appreciation, socializing and maybe even a little fun, as we camp out at an emergency shelter together. Dinner and snacks will be provided.

Transportation to and from the exercise is the responsibility of the participants.

Click the button below to tell us a little about yourself and/or your loved one. Registration for this exercise is limited.

Shelter Exercise Date:  August 10, 2018

Start Time: 2:00 PM

End Time:  8:00 PM

Where: George P. Phenix, Hampton, VA (accessible to all)

Meals will be provided!

What to Bring:

  • A sense of adventure,
  • Your personal attendant or caregiver (if you need one, you must bring yours to participate),
  • Your ADA compliant service animal (if you have one),
  • Medications,
  • Necessary equipment,
  • Personal hygiene items,
  • Special snacks or food (if you have food allergies), and
  • Any comfort or entertainment items you might want to use while spending time in an emergency shelter.

Emergency shelter staff will be learning with you as you register for the event and we shelter together. We will provide information on how to best be prepared for disasters in our area. We also need your help and want to discuss the best ways to assist with your basic needs and listen to your feedback on how to improve your shelter stay experience! We value your input as we work together on lessons learned for sheltering our community during an emergency.
