Call for Entries

DEADLINE: January 14, 2022

WHO MAY ENTER

Persons, agencies, consultants, contractors and water utilities (hereafter referred to as Nominees) who will soon or have recently completed a water supply, treatment, storage, or conveyance project or planning study in Idaho, Oregon or Washington. Nominees must be members in good standing with PNWS-AWWA. All projects must be in some way related to drinking water and demonstrate “Excellence in Engineering.”

 Each Nominee is limited to two entries.

WHAT TO ENTER

Outstanding drinking water related Engineering projects which have led to overall cost savings to the water using community, provided enhanced safety to the public and/or water resources, resulted in extended asset service life, integrated a cutting-edge technology in the design, or other criteria that is representative of "Excellence in Engineering". The following criteria are required for all entries:

  • Projects must be submitted within 3 years of final acceptance of construction.
  • Projects shall not have been previously submitted for consideration for this award. (Submitting a project multiple years for consideration is not allowed.)

Awards will be given in three categories:

  • Best Large Engineering Works Project (construction cost over $5,000,000)
  • Best Small Engineering Works Project (construction cost of less than $5,000,000)
  • Best Engineering Planning Project

HOW TO ENTER

Submit an electronic nomination packet which includes the following:

  1. Fill out online nomination form.
  2. Project narrative (see box at left).  Narrative shall not exceed three single-sided pages, not including supporting material.
  3. Supporting material such as:
    • Project drawings/select plan sheets
    • Maps, figures, or charts
    • Newspaper articles
    • Letters
    • Photographs
    • Visual aids
    • Other relevant information

A $200 entry fee must be received prior to the Entry Deadline for a project to be considered.

Project narrative and supporting materials shall be emailed to Nick Robertson in .pdf format.  Contact Nick at 503-701-8650 for a secure dropbox for uploading files that exceed email size restrictions.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Excellence can take many forms.  Judges are looking for creative problem solving, innovative solutions and difficult challenges overcome.  Use the project narrative to explain how your project represents "Excellence in Engineering".

WHO JUDGES THE ENTRIES?

An independent panel of professionals from the engineering industry will judge the entries. Nominations for awards will be reviewed by a jury of three or more independent judges including members of the PNWS-AWWA Engineering Committee and at least one outside judge.

ENTRY DEADLINE

All entries must be received on or before January 14, 2022 to be considered. Judging will take place during January 2022.

WINNING NOMINEES

Nominees will be notified of judged results by February 11, 2022. The winning nominees will be announced at the PNWS-AWWA Conference in Tacoma, WA.

Each winning team will receive one award plaque at the Conference. Additional plaques may be purchased by the winning teams at a cost of $100 per plaque. 

Each winner will be highlighted during the engineering technical sessions, and will also be provided an opportunity to create a poster describing their project that will be prominently displaced during the entire conference.
