Non-Profit Roundtable (Milwaukee) | Building Leaderful Organizations

10 years leadership development in the nonprofit sector has been gaining increased attention.  In 2006, a national research study of nonprofit executive leadership found that 75% of leaders planned to leave in 5 years. In 2011, the study was conducted again and although the pace of transition was dampened by the recession, executive turnover remains high.  The need for approximately 640,000 nonprofit leaders by 2016 sparked an examination of what we as a sector are doing to building the leadership pipeline.  What’s working? What can you do to build leadership throughout your organization?

Learning Objectives:

  1. Learn three approaches to succession planning: Strategic Leadership Development, Emergency Succession Planning and Departure-Defined Succession Planning.
  2. Explore several strategies to strengthen leadership throughout the nonprofit sector, including executive leader development, emerging leader development, coaching and network leadership.
  3. Identify what role you can play in building a leaderful organization.

Our discussion leader will be Mary Stelletello, MA, MBA, a Principal at Vista Global Coaching & Consulting, LLC.  Mary brings more than 20 years experience in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors to her coaching and consulting work in the areas of leadership development, governance, strategy development, training, facilitation and organizational capacity building.

Mary is a certified professional coach with the Coaches Training Institute and credentialed by the International Coaching Federation.  She uses these skills with nonprofit executives, board leaders and management staff to strengthen their abilities and skills to guide organizations to excellence. Mary is known for her depth of experience “walking in the shoes” of CEOs and board leaders and working in networks.  Mary designs and facilitates learning communities for executive directors and emerging leaders.  Most recently, in partnership with Spectrum Nonprofit Services, Mary launched Leadership Advanced Milwaukee, a cohort-based peer-centered program for Executive Directors and Senior Managers.
