NCC & DORA Continuing Education Hours Offered

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), founded by Marsha Linehan, PhD, was initially developed for patients diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. Since its inception there have been numerous research articles describing the effectiveness of utilizing DBT with other populations to include substance abuse treatment. In light of this research, many addiction treatment centers have begun implementing DBT programming.

Integrating Dialectical Behavior Therapy with the Twelve Steps is an innovative program that unites the evidence-based therapies Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Twelve Step Facilitation (TSF). Combined, these two therapies help strengthen your clients’ recovery process. Whether implemented in inpatient treatment settings, intensive outpatient programs, or in individual private practice, Integrating Dialectical Behavior Therapy with the Twelve Steps helps you customize an evidence-based treatment program that meets your clients’ needs.

The workshop will focus on:

  • Review of evidence-based practice trends related to DBT and Twelve Step Facilitation
  • Summary of key concepts of DBT
  • Comparison of the Stages and Targets of DBT with Twelve Step philosophy
  • Comprehensive review of Integrating DBT with the Twelve Steps Facilitator’s Guide, Session Outlines and Participant Handouts
  • In-depth review of each of the four modules from Integrating DBT with the Twelve Steps Workbook: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Emotion Regulation
  • Practice skills from each of the four modules (Samples to be selected by the trainees, upon request)
  • Small Group practice
